We are seeking a detail-oriented Scientist to join our highly collaborative Assay Development and Testing team. You will play a critical role in the continued development of our enzyme engineering platform at Arzeda to rapidly screen and optimize protein functions. Using your deep knowledge of enzymology, including enzyme kinetics, protein characterization, analytical biochemistry, and HT-assay development and troubleshooting you will contribute to impactful projects across the company and our partnerships.

Responsibilities:
- Developing optimized conditions for robust high throughput protein or enzyme assays.
- Implementing miniaturized, predictive protein or materials characterization assays.
- Perform HT or mid-scale protein preparation.
- Working with automation and database/LIMS experts, the candidate will be expected to contribute to the implementation of robust assay as well as data workflows.
- Assisting in development of microfluidics devices.
- Working closely with and training associate scientists and technicians to develop, optimize and perform laboratory SOPs.
- Interfacing with upstream (e.g., Protein Design, Strain Design, and Genetic Design-Build teams) and downstream teams (e.g., Analytics (LC/MS) and Fermentation teams) for efficient data exchange and transfer of materials.
Qualifications:
- PhD in Bioengineering, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Synthetic Biology, or other related field, Master's + 3 years of relevant experience, or Bachelor's + 5 years of relevant experience.
- Understanding of protein quantification.
- In-depth knowledge of protein characterization and enzyme characterization.
- Experience working with and/or developing microfluidics tools
- Experience evaluating data sets, putting together reports, and presenting findings and/or results from data analysis.
- Desire to communicate openly within a team and be receptive to feedback and learning opportunities.
Nice-to-haves (but not required):
- Python and/or R
- Hands on experience with Microscopy
- Knowledge of materials characterization and/or polymer chemistry
- Hands-on experience with automation equipment
- In depth knowledge of enzymology
Arzeda compensation and benefits include:
- Comprehensive compensation package, to include equity
- Base Salary/Hourly Pay Rate: $90k-$105k (may vary based on level of experience, education and geography)
